Understanding Birth (Edmond)

The "Understanding Birth" class will meet from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the 4th floor Women's Center at INTEGRIS Health Edmond in the Education Room which is located outside the secured unit next to the waiting room. Instructors are skilled and passionate labor and delivery nurses who are employed by INTEGRIS Health Edmond Women's Center.

NOTE: Only register one person. You may bring1-2 support persons. 

Understanding Birth is a class covering the following information:

  • Pregnancy: anatomy, preeclampsia & warning signs, preterm labor, hazards, emotions, and more.
  • Labor: Pain theories, 5 P's of labor, signs labor is near, onset of labor, stages of labor, and the importance of skin-to-skin contact.
  • Birth Stories:  Stories show how the stages of labor unfold in real life, inducing examples of natural coping techniques, partner support, medicated pain relief, and cesareans (varies by format).
  • Comfort Techniques: Birth preferences, labor support, breathing, relaxation, massage, visualization, focal points, hydrotherapy, labor & pushing positions, back labor, and partner advice.
  • Medical Procedures:  Decision-making, induction, fetal monitoring, IVs, analgesics, epidural anesthesia, labor and pushing positions with epidural, augmentation, and second-stage interventions.
  • Cesarean Birth: Reasons for a cesarean, types of cesareans, risks, anesthesia, 3D animation of surgery, recovery, reducing the risk for cesarean birth
  • Postpartum:  Involution, lochia, perineum care, baby blues,  self-care, and postpartum warning signs.

Each woman will receive a corresponding guidebook that contains a free downloadable app complete with all the videos from the class as well as other helpful features.

Tours of the unit will be given following the class. Non-class participants are welcome to join the class for the tour at approximately 3:00 - 3:45 p.m. Please register separately for the free tour to participate. Tour participants may meet the class in the waiting room. Please let the unit clerk know you are present for the tour when arriving.

Tours are available free of charge for current or prospective patients. Please register for the tour, unlimited spaces are available.

Tours are offered at 3 p.m. following the Saturday Understanding Birth class. You do not need to participate in the class to take the tour but you do need to register.

Tours meet on the 4th floor Women's Center in the waiting room.

Tours typically last 30-45 minutes and may occasionally be canceled if the unit is full.

Online Childbirth Class

$50

Our online childbirth class is ideal for those expectant parents who can't attend an on-site childbirth class due to work schedules, time constraints, or medical conditions.

You only need to register ONE person. Please do not register multiple participants. You will incur a charge for each person registered.

The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities, and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their birth.

Our online childbirth class will help you:

  • Understand pregnancy – what's happening to your body, discomforts, warning signs, nutrition, exercise, and more
  • Learn about labor – preparing for birth, pre-labor signs, onset of labor, 3D animation of the labor process, and more
  • See how the stages of labor unfold – watch amazing real-life birth stories
  • Discover helpful comfort techniques – breathing, relaxation, massage, visualization, focal points, hydrotherapy, labor and pushing positions, advice for partners, and more

Your eClass registration includes online access for nine months.

Breastfeeding (Online)

Free

Instructors include INTEGRIS Health board-certified lactation consultants or mother/baby RNs with extensive breastfeeding training.

Classes are Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Class dates are available at registration.

Registration includes two adults. To register, email  the following information to vicky.harter@integrisok.com:

  • Your name
  • Address – to receive breastfeeding education materials
  • Date you would like to attend
  • Expected delivery date
  • Physician’s name

Class topics include:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding, how breastfeeding works, breastmilk and milk supply
  • Skills for breastfeeding: reading your baby’s hunger cues, positions for breastfeeding, the importance of latch and knowing your baby is getting enough
  • What to expect: common concerns and healthy lifestyle
  • Working and breastfeeding: information on breast pumps and supplies

Registration includes two adults.

Milk Bar Lactation Support Group (Edmond)

STARTING APRIL 6!

A safe place for moms to come together and share their breastfeeding experiences and knowledge or seek advice. It’s a great place to make new friends, weigh your baby and get support from our lactation consultant and other new moms. This is a community event; moms do not need to have delivered at Integris Health Edmond to participate.

The Milk Bar is free, and registration is not required.

The Milk Bar at Integris Health Edmond will meet on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. come and go on the 4th floor in the Women's Center waiting room. Connie Barta, RN, IBCLC will be leading this event.
