All insurance companies have some type of breast pump coverage, but are pumps all the same? Learn about the different categories of pumps, why a mom might need to pump, how to initiate a milk supply using a pump, and what exclusively pumping means. Hear from moms who have exclusively pumped by choice or necessity as well as tips on how to keep a milk supply when you return to work. This class is most helpful when the Breastfeeding Basics Class has already been taken or if mom has breastfed before. Save time and money and take both Breastfeeding Basics and Pumping Power on the same day. Sign up first for Breastfeeding Basics! It is also recommended to wait to purchase your own pump until after taking this class.

Tour will begin at 5:30 pm in the first-floor conference room. It typically continues until 6:45, ending with a time for questions and answers.

This class will take place on one evening from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. 

Class participants will learn about common newborn traits and behaviors, as well as newborn health and safety, including Lifesaver, safe sleep and Newborn procedures.  There will be discussion on ways to comfort your newborn with hands-on practice with swaddling, burping and diaper changing. Grandparents are encouraged to sign up as well.

Please feel free to bring a drink & snack or stop by the cafeteria prior to class or during a break.

Class instructor JeannaLynn May, RN-BSN, CCE, brings more than 24 years of experience in labor and delivery, postpartum care and childbirth education. A board-certified childbirth educator and life coach, she has served families at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Women’s Center since 2002, bringing a deep-seated, genuine passion to her classes and the families she serves.

Class participants will learn common newborn characteristics, newborn proceedures during the hospital stay, benefits of rooming-in, newborn senses, the ABCs of safe sleep as well as get hands-on practice on swaddling, burping, diaper changing and bathing their infant. Physical changes mom will experience after giving birth, new parent emotions, lifestyle changes, and challenges will also be included in this fun and informative class. Class meets from 6-9pm on one week night.

“Understanding Birth” is a two-week class which meets from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the conference room on the first floor of Lakeside Women’s Hospital. 

These classes are intended for and most relevant to those planning on giving birth at Lakeside Women’s Hospital.

NOTE: Only register one person. You may bring 1 support person. 

Class 1 will provide an understanding of the Anatomy of Pregnancy, Labor and Delivery, Comfort Measures for Labor and Partner support.

Class 2 will explore medications and interventions for labor and birth, Cesarean birth, recovery, postpartum, and end with a hospital tour.
