Understanding Birth (Lakeside)

The "Understanding Birth" class meets from 5:30-8:30 pm in the conference room on the first floor of Lakeside Women’s Hospital. These classes are intended for and most relevant to those planning on giving birth at Lakeside Women’s Hospital.

NOTE: Only register one person. You may bring 1 support person

Join us for an evening of “Understanding Birth” at Lakeside Women’s Hospital. Our Live class offers the industry gold-standard InJoy curriculum in a group setting. Live classes will dive into the “Understanding Birth” course, Q and A session, and end with a hospital tour so you can be the most prepared to welcome your baby at Lakeside. 

NOTE: Only register one person. You may bring 1 support person.

Labor & Delivery Tour (Edmond)

Tours are available free of charge for current or prospective patients. Please register for the tour.

Tours are offered at 3:30 p.m. following the Saturday Understanding Birth class and during the week before other prenatal classes. You do not need to participate in a class to take the tour but you do need to register.

Tours are also given as part of the Understanding Childbirth Class and the Integris Birth Experience Class. You do not need to register for a tour separately if you are taking one of these classes at Integris Edmond and deliverying at Integris Edmond. 

Tours meet on the 4th floor Women's Center in the waiting room and start promptly. 

Tours typically last 30-45 minutes and may occasionally be canceled if the unit is full.

Adults only, please, no children. If older siblings would like to be a part of a tour, please contact Angela Kersh directly to set up a private tour. 405-313-1832

Comfort Measures for Childbirth

Comfort Measures class is perfect for couples who have given birth before and want a refresher or couples who have already attended Understanding Birth class and want a deeper understanding with more practice of natural coping methods. This class is created around Penny Simkin's Comfort Measures DVD and book The Birth Partner. It will be interactive for both mom and support people. This class does not include information about medical intervention or the process of labor itself, that is covered in the Understand Birth class.  This class focuses on natural coping methods. Attending Understanding Birth Class first is suggested.

Topics include: breathing, relaxation, visualization, guided imagery, massage, counter pressure, positions for labor and pushing.

Support people do need to attend with mom. 1-2 per mom is welcome. For couples who also attended the Understanding Birth class, this class is available at no additional charge. Please attend class to get the code or contact the instructor, Angela, directly. 405-313-1832

Please register in advance for the tour.

Tours are available on Mondays at noon, with the exception of holidays.

Please meet in the Lakeside front entrance waiting area for tours to begin. Tours typically last 30 to 45 minutes and may occasionally be canceled if the facility is full.

Breastfeeding Basics

Breastfeeding is natural but it is a learned skill. Moms and partners will learn how milk is made, breastfeeding positions, what a good latch looks like, infant hunger feeding cues, how to know your baby is getting enough, and when to call for help. 

Please only register mom, partners can come for free. Class meets one evening from 6-9pm or one morning/afternoon for 3 hours.

Class meets on the 4th floor of Integris Edmond in the Women's Center Education room. Ice and water availble, bring any desired snack.

Successful Breastfeeding (Lakeside)

Expectant moms in their 30th week of pregnancy or later are invited to register. Please only register mom. One support person is welcome to attend.

Class topics include:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding, how breastfeeding works, breastmilk and milk supply
  • Skills for breastfeeding: reading your baby’s hunger cues, positions for breastfeeding, the importance of latch and knowing your baby is getting enough
  • What to expect: common concerns and healthy lifestyle
  • Working and breastfeeding: information on breast pumps and supplies
