Infant CPR
with Angela Kersh
Join us for the ABCs of CPR for infants 12 months and less. This basic class taught by an experienced LDRP nurse will focus on cardiac arrest and choking. Please enroll only one person from each family. Class includes a participant book. Each family will have one mannequin to practice on during class. Participants may bring 1 other with them. This is not a certification class.
Note: Register only one person, second person is free.
Class will meet on the 4th floor at Integris Health Edmond in the patient education room. Class lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour. Older siblings are welcome to attend as well as newborns! For further questions please contact Angela Kersh at 405-313-1832
Pumping Power

All insurance companies have some type of breast pump coverage, but are pumps all the same? Learn about the different categories of pumps, why a mom might need to pump, how to initiate a milk supply using a pump, and what exclusively pumping means. Hear from moms who have exclusively pumped by choice or necssity as well as tips on how to keep a milk supply when you return to work. This class is most helpful when the Breastfeeding Basics Class has already been taken or if mom has breastfed before. Save time and money and take both Breastfeeding Basics and Pumping Power on the same day. Sign up first for Breastfeeding Basics!

Understanding Birth (Canadian Valley)

This holistic Understanding Birth class meets from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Conference Room A and B at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital.
This course includes eight weeks of classes plus one bonus physical therapy class and a mock delivery in an LDRP room. Moms are encouraged to register during 14 to 16 weeks into their pregnancy.

Understanding Birth covers the following topics:
- Pregnancy: anatomy, preeclampsia and warning signs, preterm labor, hazards, emotions, healthy nutrition, physical changes and challenges, etc.
- Labor: Pain theories, 5 Ps of labor, signs labor is near, onset of labor, stages of labor, the importance of being relaxed and having a relaxed support system, skin-to-skin contact with mom and dad/support team, etc.
- Birth Stories (varies by format): Stories show how the stages of labor unfold in real life, introducing examples of natural coping techniques, partner support, medicated pain relief and cesareans.
- Comfort Techniques: Birth preferences, labor support, breathing, relaxation, massage, visualization, focal points, hydrotherapy, back labor, partner advice and when and how to push. We focus on being able to RELAX!
- Medical Choices/Procedures: Decision-making, induction, fetal monitoring, IVs, analgesics, epidural anesthesia, labor and pushing positions with epidural, augmentation and second-stage interventions.
- Cesarean Birth: Reasons for and types of cesareans, anesthesia, 3D animation of surgery, recovery, reducing the risk for cesarean birth.
- Initial Newborn care: Practicing together changing diapers, dressing, how to hold a baby, how to transfer with confidence from one person to another, bathing and Q&A.
- Beginning Breastfeeding: How to get a good latch for a proper transfer of milk from breast to baby, teaching dad/support person the positions – then, letting them teach moms, establishing a positive mindset around breastfeeding, some challenges, the advantages for both mom and baby, Q&A.
- Postpartum: This is important time. Too often we overlook or minimize this time, forcing moms to take on too much too fast which interferes with their recovery, healthy breastfeeding and heathy relationships!
Class instructor JeannaLynn May, RN-BSN, CCE, brings more than 24 years of experience in labor and delivery, postpartum care and childbirth education. A board-certified childbirth educator and life coach, she has served families at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Women’s Center since 2002, bringing a deep-seated, genuine passion to her classes and the families she serves.

Labor and Delivery Tour (Canadian Valley)

Tours are offered at 11:45 a.m. the first Wednesday of every month.

Newborn and Postpartum Care

Class participants will learn common newborn characteristics, newborn proceedures during the hospital stay, benefits of rooming-in, newborn senses, the ABCs of safe sleep as well as get hands-on practice on swaddling, burping, diaper changing and bathing their infant. Physical changes mom will experience after giving birth, new parent emotions, lifestyle changes, and challenges will also be included in this fun and informative class. Class meets from 6-9pm on one week night.
Note: please only register one parent/participant, the second is free.
Ice and water will be available, feel free to bring any food or snacks with you to class.
Understanding Birth (Edmond)

This is a two night class series. Two Tuesday nights, one week a part from 6-9pm. July 7th and July 14.
The "Understanding Birth" class will meet on the 4th floor Women's Center at INTEGRIS Health Edmond in the Education Room which is located outside the secured unit next to the waiting room. Instructors are skilled and passionate labor and delivery nurses who are employed by INTEGRIS Health Edmond Women's Center.
NOTE: Only register one person. You may bring 1-2 support persons.
Understanding Birth is a class covering the following information:

Each woman will receive a corresponding guidebook that contains a free downloadable app complete with all the videos from the class as well as other helpful features.
An optional tour of the unit will be given following the second class from 9-9:30pm. If you are not deliverying at Edmond, or do not want to stay, you may leave when class is over.
This class requires a minimum of 4 participants to make. If the class does not make, a refund will be given of all the class fees minus a $7 service fee.

STOP the Bleed

STOP the Bleed is a national awareness campaign created by the American College of Surgeons to train, equip and empower ordinary people to intervene and stop life-threatening bleeding before before professional help arrives.
Nurses, paramedics, EMTs, physicians or advanced practice providers can become a course instructor by attending oned class and regitering online with the ACS.

Breastfeeding Basics

Breastfeeding is natural but it is a learned skill. Class discussion inlcudes why breastfeed, recommend length of breastfeeding, trends, and risks of not breastfeeding. Moms and partners will learn how milk is made, breastfeeding positions, what a good latch looks like, infant hunger feeding cues, how to know your baby is getting enough, and when to call for help. Parents will gain a wealth of knowledge in this class and be ready to feed their babies.
Please only register mom, partners can come for free. Class meets one evening from 6-9pm or one morning/afternoon for 3 hours.
Class meets on the 4th floor of Integris Edmond in the Women's Center Education room. Ice and water availble, bring any desired snack.
